During the 1998 Minnesota governor race, another third party candidate made a big difference in the outcome. In this three-way race, Jesse "the Body" Ventura, former pro wrestler and movie actor, beat both Norm Coleman and Hubert Humphrey, despite the fact that both Coleman and Humphrey had far more political experience than Ventura. There is reason to suspect that over half of the voters preferred both Coleman and Humphrey to Ventura. However, only first place votes count, so Ventura was the winner. Did the outcome of this race really reflect the preferences of the voters? |
